Asian Heritage Month 2022 Poster

The theme for Asian Heritage Month 2022 is, “Continuing a legacy of greatness”. It is a reminder for all Canadians to come together to combat anti-Asian racism and discrimination in all its forms. May 2022 marks the 20th anniversary of the Senate of Canada’s Declaration of May as Asian Heritage Month, a motion tabled by the Honourable Dr. Vivienne Poy, the first Canadian of Asian descent to be appointed to the Senate of Canada. To celebrate Asian Heritage Month, Waterloo Architecture has compiled a list of resources that are available for its community members.

Chinatown: An Opera Performance - May 30, 2022 - 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Toronto Public Library
This new opera is a story of family and neighbourhood, racism and resistance, history and tomorrow. It examines six characters, two families, and a chorus of male ghosts, from the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway to our own times. It deals with violence and despair, the Head Tax, the Chinese Exclusion Act, paper sons, and paper promise. It is a Western opera, but incorporates Chinese themes, sounds and sensibilities. And it is a love story.
