African Cinema and Urbanism by Marie-Paule Macdonald published by Anthem Press
African Cinema and Urbanism, recently released by Anthem Press, is Associate Professor Marie-Paule Macdonald's latest book.
Released as part of the Anthem Africology Series, this work brings together theories and practices from the disciplines of urbanism, architecture and African cinema studies to examine, through African screen media, how African artists are bringing attention to issues of urban precarity, climate change, survival and growth, and creativity on the continent.
An accompanying essay Visualising Climate Change Effects on Urban and Rural Habitat in African Cinema and Urbanism, published in December, provides a critical overview and starting point for the themes and work explored in the book.
Marie-Paule Macdonald opens up a world of documentation and dreaming that is an important source for anyone engaged in considering how cultures see and express their own meanings in the cities they inhabit.
