Waterloo Architecture alumnus Alison Brooks (BES '85 and BArch '88) was named a High Commendation at 2021’s Female Frontier Awards, in the Architect of the Year category.

The Female Frontier Awards: Powered by World Architecture News recognize remarkable, talented and visionary women of all ages, at every level across Architecture. These awards champion best practice, support new and established talent and celebrate the firms who are supporting women in their roles.

Alison Brooks is one of the leading architects of her generation. Her practice, Alison Brooks Architects (ABA), founded in 1996, is a ground-breaking, ethically driven practice internationally recognized for design excellence.

"I'm honoured to be in the company of every architect recognized by this award, in particular Francine Houben (Mecanoo). Francine is a leading light for women in the profession and also a personal friend. There's much work to be done for women architects to have the same visibility and access to opportunities our male colleagues enjoy. The Female Frontier Awards make an important contribution to this cause."
