Designlines' Get to Know column recently featured CAB Architects and Picnic Design, two emerging firms led by Waterloo Architecture alumni.

CAB Architects

CAB Architects is a residential architecture firm based in Toronto, founded by husband and wife duo, Brian Hagood and Charisma Panchapakesan (BES '09, MArch '11). Before returning to her hometown of Toronto, Charisma spent a decade working in New York City focusing on residential design.

CAB Architects "strive to make buildings that reflect the unique nature of each site and homeowner. We do this with a warm and embellished style, rooted in aesthetic traditions that are comfortable in the modern world. To achieve a timeless result, we believe each home must be made unique, embellished with detail, and imbued with a strong personal character."

Picnic Design

Picnic Design is a Toronto-based architecture and interior design studio led by founding principals Joanne Lam (BES '99, MArch '04) and Eric Martin. "We view urban design, architecture and interior design as a single, integrated discipline that drives our way of thinking and gets us excited about what we do. By anticipating the dynamics of urban living and community in the details of design, we seek to enhance the experience of the built environment that surrounds us."

They were recently awarded a 2023 Architecture Masterprize in the Interior Design - Rooms and Zones category for their project 'Kids Nooks'.
