Fourth year undergraduate student, Jhony Li Feng's project 'Artist-N-Residence' was awarded second prize in the 2025 Edmund N. Bacon Student Design Awards.

Artist-N-Residence envisions “The Market Street Marker’s District”, a mix-use cultural district at the heart of central Philadelphia. The project places community participation through the arts as the catalyst to creating vibrant neighborhoods in Philadelphia to encourage city growth. Artist-N-Residence will create partnerships with local community nonprofits, government agencies, and private markets to create a new replicable model of urban development. The Market Street Marker’s District features a mix of entertainment, commercial, residential and educational programming are knit together through colourful and whimsical open spaces.

Founded in 2006 in memory of Philadelphia's iconic 20th-century city planner, Edmund N. Bacon [1910-2005], this annual program honors both professionals and students whose work epitomizes excellence in urban design.

The student design competition attracts undergraduate and graduate students from around the globe and the competition focuses on an area or location in Philadelphia. Students are challenged to present bold ideas that will improve the area, while prioritizing community needs as a core tenet of design excellence.
