Waterloo Architecture Students Reflect on Life and Learning in Rome
Fourth-year students Ella Caudle and Mattan Jin have spent the fall immersed in the rich history and vibrant culture of Rome as part of the school’s annual Rome Program. The students shared reflections on their first month of living and studying in Rome with Cambridge Today.
Rome is more than a classroom for the students; it’s a city of contrasts and inspiration. They describe mornings wandering through quiet Trastevere streets, savouring espresso in bustling cafés, and sketching in centuries-old churches. Life in Rome moves between calm and chaos: sprinting for buses, chatting over aperitivo, and immersing themselves in layers of history.
The experience is transformative, offering moments of connection and reflection amid the city’s complexity. As one student put it, “Rome is constantly in flux, and so are we..".
