How to Apply for the School of Architecture Student Experience Fund

The School of Architecture Student Experience Fund offers financial assistance to students who wish to participate in extra-curricular activities or experiential learning opportunities, such as travel abroad courses, field trips, conferences, or project exhibitions. This fund supports the professional development of students and enriches their academic experience. 

Steps to Apply: 

1. Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet the following requirements: 

  • You (and all group members) are enrolled in any program at the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo. 
  • You (and all group members) are in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative average of 70% for undergraduate students, and 80% for graduate students. 
  • The activity or experience you wish to apply for will enhance your education and professional development. 
  • Activities must be a maximum of 6 months away or have taken place within the past 12 months of the application deadline. 
  • Activities related to Architecture’s Rome Program are not eligible. 

2. Prepare Your Application: 

  • Identify the specific activity you plan to participate in (e.g., conference, field trip, competition, etc.). 

  • Be ready to explain how this activity will contribute to your academic and professional growth. 

  • Clearly list the names of all students (including program and year) and faculty members participating in the listed activities. 

  • Include the scheduled dates of all activities. 

  • Prepare any required documents, such as an outline of the activity, material costs, travel budget, or relevant supporting details. 

3. Submit Your Application: 

  • Write a formal application (1 page maximum) that includes your personal details and the specifics of the activity you wish to participate in. 

  • Submit your application directly to your academic coordinator. Applications will be reviewed on a termly basis. Submission deadlines: April 1, August 1, and December 1.  

4. Selection Process: The Director of the School will review your application based on the merit of the activity and its educational value. Successful applicants will be provided support up to $500 for individual activities, and up to $2000 for group activities. Selection is competitive and dependent on available funding.
