The Centre for Bioengingeering and Biotechnology is proud to showcase student research with our CBB Student Showcase series. Each student will be giving a 30 minute seminar that will include time for questions.
 

Seminar 1: Control of an Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Robot Systems with the design of a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Stroke Survivors by Parya Khoshroo

Parya Khoshroo
Bio: Parya graduated with a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering – Control Systems in 2016 and is currently a second-year master's student in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Under the supervision of Professor John McPhee and Professor Jennifer Boger, the emphasis of her research is on rehabilitation using an upper extremity stroke rehabilitation robot and to control it in such a way that can improve the upper-limb movements of people having a stroke. They are also interested in designing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for therapists to enable them to work with the robot.

Seminar 2: Development of a social robot as a mediator for intergenerational gameplay by Aishwarya K Aravamuthan 

Aishwarya K Aravamuthan
Bio: Aishwarya is a MASc candidate in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Dr. Kerstin Dautenhahn and Dr. Jennifer Boger. Her research focuses on using a social robot as a mediator to foster interaction in an intergenerational multiplayer game.

Seminar 3: Novel Data Representations for Virtual Reality(VR) Exergames by Yirou Li

Chris Li
Bio:  Yirou (Chris) Li, is currently a MASc student in Systems Design Engineering Department at University of Waterloo supervised by Dr. Jennifer Boger from Intelligent Technologies For Wellness And Independent Living (ITWIL) lab. to research in developing novel data representations for VR exergames that can promote physical activities in older adults living with dementia.

Research interests:

  • Healthcare
  • Human factors, UI/UX designs
  • AI for developing ambient technologies.
