CBB and GI members are invited to a Games Institute – Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology Research Speed Dating event. The Research Speed Dating will allow members from both institutions to interact and learn more about interdisciplinary research projects as well as research they can potentially implement in their own work. It is an opportunity to meet and chat with other GI and CBB members about their work as well as enjoy a delicious BBQ afterwards.
At the start of the event, everyone will be provided with a name tag with your name and three words that best describe your research/specialty, as noted in the registration form. This will give your fellow members an idea of what to expect in the few minutes that you will be presenting your work to them.
There will be two rows of chairs facing each other. Once everyone is seated, a prompt will be given to the group to guide the discussion and we will start the timer indicating that everyone sitting on the right side now has 1 minute and 30 seconds to answer the prompt to the person sitting across from them. Once the timer goes off, the left side will now also be able to answer the prompt to the right side. Once the left side time is up, the right side will shift one seat and we will start again. Every round, you will be provided with a new prompt to answer.
Please note that the Research Speed Dating will be held in the Games Institute Collaboration Space (EC1-1323) and the BBQ will be held outside the GI. If you found someone’s research particularly interesting, you can ask them questions during the BBQ. The GI space will remain open throughout the BBQ to provide an indoor space.
Speed Dating is restricted to Faculty only. An invitation to the event will be sent by email to all those elligible to attend. Student researchers are invited to the BBQ portion of the event. Please share this invitation with your group members.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
