The information below is for Summer 2021. More information about Summer 2022 will be available in April 2022.

What will I study in iBASE?

iBASE runs 7 weeks. iBASE Orientation will happen online on Monday, July 12, 2021 and your first day of classes will happen on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. If you would like to live in the Renison Residence during iBASE, we recommend that you arrive to move in on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

You must attend ALL classes for this intensive program. Students are not able to begin the program late. No exceptions. We strongly recommend that you plan to arrive in Waterloo on Sunday, July 11, 2021 if you will live in Renison Residence. This will allow you time to adjust to your surroundings and settle in before you begin iBASE.

iBASE classes for summer 2021 will happen online. You will study 3 BASE courses that focus on different areas of English language preparedness for academic studies:

  • Skills and Strategies for University
  • Academic Writing & Research
  • Academic Speaking & Communication Strategies

In iBASE, you do not take any Waterloo credit courses. However, you complete faculty-specific activities and attend guest lectures. You will also participate in virtual workshops and events that prepare you for future employment.

What will my iBASE schedule be?

In iBASE, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with experienced TESL-certified instructors and other students in a small, virtual classroom community.

Students will be able to enjoy a combination of:

  • Real-time class instruction that provides quality curriculum and is observant to different time zones
  • Pre-recorded instructional videos that you can rewind and play repeatedly
  • Online instructional activities to ensure you are engaged in your learning

As direct communication is very important in our courses, we will have timeslots where students will receive direct feedback from their instructors about their work.

You will receive your official class schedule during the week of July 5, 2021 by email.

Where will I stay during iBASE?

Students have the opportunity to live in Renison University College's Residence during the iBASE program. Residence rooms are available on a first come first serve basis.
