What will I study in iBASE?

iBASE runs 7 weeks. iBASE Orientation will happen online on Monday, July 132020 and your first day of classes will happen on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. If you would like to live in the Renison Residence during iBASE, we recommend that you arrive to move in on Sunday, July 12, 2020.

You must attend ALL classes for this intensive program. Students are not able to begin the program late. No exceptions. We strongly recommend that you plan to arrive in Waterloo on Sunday, July 12, 2020 if you will live in Renison Residence. This will allow you time to adjust to your surroundings and settle in before you begin iBASE.

iBASE classes for summer 2020 will happen online. You will study the same Level 40 BASE courses as in the regular BASE program:

BASE 042 Enhanced Skills & Strategies for University
BASE 044 Extended Academic Writing & Research Skills
BASE 046 Effective Academic Speaking & Communication Strategies

In iBASE, you do not take any Waterloo credit courses. However, you complete faculty-specific activities and attend guest lectures. You will also participate in virtual workshops and events that prepare you for your co-op work terms.

What will my iBASE schedule be?

In iBASE, you will have the opportunity to interact directly with experienced TESL-certified instructors and other students in a small, virtual classroom community.

Students will be able to enjoy a combination of:

  • Real-time class instruction that provides quality curriculum and is observant to different time zones
  • Pre-recorded instructional videos that you can rewind and play repeatedly
  • Online instructional activities to ensure you are engaged in your learning

As direct communication is very important in our courses, we will have timeslots where students will receive direct feedback from their instructors about their work.

You will receive your official class schedule during iBASE Orientation on July 13.

Where will I stay during iBASE?

Students have the opportunity to live in Renison University College's Residence during the iBASE program. Residence rooms are available on a first come first serve basis.  Be sure to confirm your offer by Monday, June 1, 2020 and submit your fees no later than Friday, June 5, 2020.

You may move into residence at any time starting Sunday, July 12, 2020. You must move out of residence by 9am on September 3, 2020.
