Welcome to the WCGS

The Waterloo Centre for German Studies is a research institute at the University of Waterloo. Funded by private donations, the WCGS supports research into all aspects of the German-speaking world, and is committed to publicly-oriented scholarship. We facilitate the communication of German studies research, distribute awards to students wishing to study in Germany, and organize cultural programming for the university and wider communities.

Two-day Symposium on New Perspectives in Language Education

Call for Proposals
The Centre for Educational Research in Languages and Literacies (CERLL) of OISE-University of Toronto is pleased to announce the second Symposium of Southern Ontario Universities on New Perspectives in Language Education. This symposium is a joint collaboration with:

  • The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga;
  • The Faculty of Education at Western University;
  • The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics and the Faculty of Education at York University;
  • The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies of the University of Waterloo;

This symposium will be held virtually on June 11-12, 2021 and will feature the latest research and findings in Languages and Literacies education.
Theme of the 2021 Symposium: Challenges, Changes, and Chances: The Future of Languages and Literacies Education.

            In co-operation with the German Pedagogical Exchange Office (PAD), the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German is accepting applications for positions as English-language assistants in the Federal Republic of Germany. Information and application forms are available from the GSS Undergraduate Studies co-ordinator Katja Czarnecki. Please note there are new requirements for 2021 including the ability to work online.
