Book Cover
Description: Some years ago, members of the German-Canadian community approached the Waterloo Centre for German Studies with an idea to collect the oral history of German-speaking immigrants to Waterloo region, especially those who had arrived after the Second World War. Now, some 120 interviews later, a book of essays based on the interviews is being published. Edited by Dr. Mat Schulze, Dr. Grit Liebscher, and Dr. Sebastian Siebel-Achenbach, the fourteen essays have been co-written by professors and students. Each essay explores a particular aspect of the immigrant experience - the sorrow of leaving a homeland behind, the challenges of making one's way in a strange country, the tension between living in one culture and missing another.
We invite you to join us as we launch this book. The editors will be in attendance and will introduce the book, which will be available for purchase. You'll find details on the book launch below, plus a link to register.
Registration details below.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the Book Launch (debit/credit), but can also be purchased online at Petra Books.
