Two Austrian writers will give a multi-media presentation and reading of their collective works on Monday, September 26, 2022.

The Waterloo Centre for German Studies will be holding a book launch for a collection of essays, Germans of Waterloo. Edited by Mat Schulze, Grit Liebscher, and Sebastian Siebel-Achenbach, this anthology recounts the experiences of German-speaking immigrants to the Waterloo region since the end of the Second World War. The essays, all co-written by faculty members and students at the Waterloo Centre for German Studies, are based on over 100 interviews conducted with members of the German-Canadian community.

To encourage and expand current conversations about public-facing scholarship in medieval studies, we’ve invited two young scholars, Carolin Rinn and Lucy Splarn, to share their experiences about doing public-facing research and work. Ann Marie Rasmussen will discuss with them the importance of public scholarship, its challenges, and its possibilities.

Franzobel will give a reading from his book Einsteins Hirn, as part of his North American tour on Friday, March 31, 2023.

Writing Illness: Women’s Experiences in the 19^th-Century Sickroom

Alison Phipps takes an anthropological approach to the work of memory and reconciliation in communities where conflict and trauma have left, passed through, arrived and also survived. Her lecture focuses on theological and spiritual dimensions of integration and hospitality work.
