The Fall of the Berlin Wall: Why It Happened, What It Changed

On May 27, the History department at the University of Waterloo and Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA) co-hosted the 'East Germany in the Cold War' conference at BSIA. Mark Kramer, Director of the Harvard Project on Cold War Studies, gave a thrilling seminar talk entitled "Cold War Myths and Realities: Understanding Today’s Threats and Challenges in Historical Perspective" on Monday, May 27.
The 2013 Jakob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm Lecture will be given by Harvard film scholar Eric Rentschler. Professor Rentschler, who will also be receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Waterloo for his leading scholarship in film studies, will be speaking on the film The Lives of Others / Das Leben der Anderen, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2007.
