Derek Robinson is an assistant professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of Waterloo. His research interests lie at the center of land use, land management, and the carbon cycle. He uses agent-based modelling to integrate GIS, ecological, and human decision-making models to evaluate the effects of socio-economic and policy scenarios on ecological function and human well-being. Recent projects outside of this area of research have focused on describing retail location behaviours, characterizing complex landscapes for wetland reclamation, and investigating the use of unmanned aerial systems for empirically informing models of human-environment interactions.
