All buildings now closed

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

This message was originally sent to students by Kate Windsor, director of safety. It has been subsequently been updated.

To follow provincial emergency orders to close non-essential businesses, we have now closed all academic buildings.

Unfortunately, over the last week or more, we have seen small numbers of people gathering in groups larger than five people in spaces and buildings that were open. Practising physical distancing is a responsibility that the University is taking seriously.

We are disappointed that a small number of people have chosen to ignore the guidance on distancing, so:

  • Buildings previously open to students for study purposes (M3, E5, E7, QNC, AHS) are now locked.
  • The Student Life Centre (SLC) will be open Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and closed weekends. Only the SLC's Ring Road doors will be open for entry; all other doors with be exit-only.
    • All student study space or lounge space is now closed. Access to the second and third floors is also restricted.
    • The Turnkey desk will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Turnkey will be available for GO Transit, Greyhound, Food Bank Hampers, limited drink and packaged food options.

    • The Student Health Pharmacy will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

    • The CIBC banking machine and self-service are available during the building's operating hours.

  • Residences remain open for students who are living in them.
  • Police Services will continue to monitor the campus and are approved to issue provincial notices to people who are not following physical distancing rules. These notices can mean fines of up to $1,000.

Please treat the COVID-19 situation seriously and play your part in stopping the spread.
