Case tracking: one community member tests positive

On Monday, October 5, 2020, Region of Waterloo public health informed us of one individual from our community who tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is in self-isolation and public health officials are in the process of contacting relevant close contacts.

New protocol to track COVID cases on campus

Update for students and employees

As Ontario grapples with increased numbers of COVID-19 cases, we are taking steps to increase transparency for our campus community.  

Starting October 1, 2020, the University of Waterloo will post information provided to us by public health units on positive cases of COVID-19 amongst students and employees who attended one of our campuses.

We’re sharing some extra information with you today in follow-up to the President’s email sent yesterday. Each resident is a part of your residence community and you play a role in keeping others safe.

The University is discouraging travel throughout fall term, including during fall and December breaks.

Update for students

You should:

  • avoid travelling outside of Canada over Fall Reading Week and December break 
  • abide by all public health and government regulations if you visit family or friends 
  • if you choose to leave Canada, you need to have a quarantine plan when you get back
