What the COVID-19 provincial shutdown means for campus operations

Update for students

  • The Region of Waterloo will move into a provincial shutdown effective December 26, 2020, which affects teaching, research and other operations on campus.
  • In-person course activity will be transitioning to remote course activity, with some exceptions.
  • Your Faculty, professor or academic advisors will be in touch with you to update you on remote course work routines.

Staying safe over the holiday break

Update for undergraduate students

  • As you make your plans for the winter break, please follow government advice on how to stay safe this holiday season.  
  • The safest way to spend the holidays is by only celebrating in person with the people you live with and celebrating virtually with everyone else. 
  • If you must travel home for the holidays, reduce close contact with others 10 to 14 days before traveling. After the holiday break, do the same before coming back to Waterloo.

New COVID-19 screening requirement

Update for students

Effective November 30, 2020, you must complete a new COVID-19 screening assessment before accessing campus.

The University is updating its COVID-19 screening processes to align with regulations the Ontario government recently announced.

COVID-19 “red zone” updates to campus operations

Update for students

  • Waterloo Region has moved into the “red zone” of the Province’s COVID-19 response framework, which means we need to change access to some facilities on campus.
  • Classes, labs and research operations will continue as they have been. 
  • Travel between regions of the province should be limited to essential purposes. Classes and work are considered essential purposes.

Winter 2021 academic schedule changes

Update for students

  • Winter term classes will begin January 11. All other winter term activities will begin as scheduled on January 4.
  • Classes will be cancelled on March 15 and 16 to create a four-day weekend from March 13 to 16.
