Following the Provost’s message earlier today, we wanted to tell you about some coordination of information and supports the University is providing to instructors who are learning to deal with remote instruction.
Firstly, as you prepare for your spring course delivery, we want to emphasize a few points.
These are unprecedented times and I know the University is asking a lot of you as instructors to make the shift to distance teaching in a very short amount of time. I’m grateful for your extraordinary efforts to complete the winter term in such difficult circumstances.
We are all challenged by the need to imagine new ways to deliver the spring term at a distance. Making sure that we deliver learning outcomes that students can be proud of is the University’s number one priority as we move ahead.
Course instructors can elect to use CR or NCR in place of numeric grades for Winter Term 2020 if they judge that they do not have enough information to give numeric grades.
Students will be able to ask to convert numeric grades to CR or NCR for a specific period after the end of Winter Term.
I know that all of you have been working extremely hard over the last several days to shift your focus – whether this was to new ways of teaching and learning, or to ways in which you could change your research program. The president and I are extremely grateful for your efforts.
