Convocation ceremonies will be celebrated online in June
We are asking for your input on how we can best recognize your achievements
Up-to-date information will be shared on our convocation website
Like you, I’ve been hoping for an in-person Convocation ceremony this spring to personally congratulate all of our new graduates. I cherish this tradition and the opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments. However, circumstances and the need to follow public health advice remains paramount. The decision to hold a virtual convocation this June was a very difficult one to make. Convocation is the culmination of years of your hard work, passion and commitment, but as we plan our celebrations we must keep your health and safety top of mind.
As the University of Waterloo continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, your well-being and the safety of students, families and our campus community is our top priority. With that in mind, today we are announcing that convocation ceremonies will take place in online formats in June 2021.
Even though this convocation will be a virtual one, we want to ensure that this ceremony remains a memorable and special moment in your lives and those of your friends and family.
We want to celebrate with you and honour your accomplishments the best way possible. To help us do just that we want to hear from you and receive your input into how we recognize this momentous occasion.
We invite you to complete this short survey by March 5, 2021 to tell us more about your preferences for a virtual convocation.
Participation in this survey is confidential and voluntary.
We will be sharing additional information about convocation dates, delivery method and more after we have collected your feedback. You can find up-to-date information on our convocation website and you can also send questions to convocation@uwaterloo.ca.
The past year has been filled with challenges and adaptations, and our community has responded with resilience, creativity and perseverance. Even though we cannot celebrate in person, we are proud of you and look forward to recognizing your accomplishments together this spring.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
