Public Health guidance and University of Waterloo operations may have changed. For the most up-to-date information, please visit our COVID-19 frequently asked questions.
This message was originally sent to instructors in the Faculty of Science by Marlee Spafford, associate dean, undergraduate studies.
I am noting two short but important points in this message.
Winter 2020 course instructors will have received a notification today that the eValuate window will be open from Monday March 23 until Friday April 3. The notification includes boilerplate language that encourages instructors to give in-class time for course evaluations; understandably that’s not possible this term. The eValuate system will send students a notification to participate at the start and a reminder part-way through the evaluation window, although we expect a low response rate this term in view of current events. Instructors and department/school administrators are asked to consider the Winter 2020 eValuate results in the context of this extraordinary time. The results of this term need an * by them. Poor scores or low response rates should not be considered at all and high scores (even if the response rate is low) should be celebrated for any hiring, annual/biannual performance, tenure and/or promotion decisions.
The Registrar’s Office requests that advisors and administrators who normally reach-out to students in their final term avoid initiating contact with students yet until there is greater clarity regarding convocation plans.
Take care.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
