One award valued at up to $5,000 is provided annually to full time graduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo. Students must be conducting Cryospheric research or research in which cryosphere is a significant factor. Interested students must submit an application that can be found on the Faculty of Environment website by October 1. A recipient will be selected annually in the fall term by the Associate Dean, Graduate Studies, Faculty of Environment with consultation from the Cryosphere Science Group.
Program
One or more awards valued at up to $4,000 each, will be given annually to full-time graduate student(s) enrolled in the Master's/Doctoral Vision Science graduate program within the Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE) at the School of Optometry, whose research provides basic or clinical information pertaining to contact lenses or a related field. The Desmond Fonn Contact Lens Research Award was established in his honour through the support of family, friends and the contact lens industry to celebrate his illustrious academic and research career while at the UW School of Optometry. This Award recognizes his leadership role as Founding Director, of the Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE) and his innovative and collaborative spirit which has helped position the CORE as one of the premier research centres of its kind in the world.
Indigenous and Black Engineering and Technology Momentum Fellowships, valued at $30,000 per year, are available annually for doctoral students registered full time in the Faculty of Engineering.
Several awards, valued at up to $2,500 each, are available annually to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who participate in an international experience, including a minimally-paid or volunteer international co-op work placement, a volunteer placement, an academic exchange or a study term related to academic requirements.
Two awards valued at $4,000 each are presented annually to excellent full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Arts, who conduct research on German language, culture, history, and/or society. Eligible students can apply by submitting a CV and a one-page research project proposal. Applicants must also arrange for a letter of support from a UW faculty member. A scholarship, valued at $4000, will be provided annually to a full-time doctoral student enrolled in their second year in the Department of Chemical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering who is conducting research in the areas of Polymer Engineering/Science.
University of Waterloo graduate students and visiting graduate students in the department of Physics and Astronomy selected for this Award will work under the supervision of a University of Waterloo faculty member at the Perimeter Institute (PI) and will be resident at PI. Students may be nominated by a faculty member at PI who is also a faculty member at the University of Waterloo.
The White Rose Scholarships are non-renewable $50,000 scholarships awarded to female graduating students in engineering who wish to pursue graduate studies (master’s or PhD) at the institution of their choice, in Canada or abroad.
The Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence supports the recruitment of top students to AI-related master's programs in Ontario.
A scholarship valued at a minimum of $1,200 will be provided annually to female graduate students registered full-time in a Master’s or Doctoral program in the Faculty of Mathematics based on demonstrated academic excellence (normally 80% cumulative average in their current program).
