Award description:
A scholarship, valued at up to $50,000, will be provided to one graduate student registered full-time in a doctoral program in the Faculty of Engineering. The scholarship will be paid to the student in equal installments over the standard program length, as long as they remain registered full-time. Selection is based on academic excellence (minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent in their current or most recently completed graduate program) combined with an interest in human-factors engineering. This fund is made possible by a donation from Maks Wulkan, a proud engineering alum (BASc’ 97 Electrical) who wants to support graduate students in their research.

Value description:
One Award valued at up to $50,000 awarded in equal installments over the standard program length for an engineering PhD at Waterloo. 

Eligibility & selection criteria: 

  • Graduate student registered full-time in the doctoral program in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Selection to be based on academic excellence (minimum 80% cumulative average or equivalent in their current or most recently completed graduate program) and demonstrated interest in Human Factors Engineering.
  • The Faculty of Engineering will identify candidates based on their application for admission.
  • Preference will be given to students who do not concurrently hold a major scholarship exceeding $3,000 per term at the time of admission.
  • This funding must be awarded in addition to the minimum funding the student may already be receiving.
  • The annual award will be paid in equal installments each term for as long as the student is registered full-time within time limits of the program (12 terms).
  • Future installments of the award are contingent upon maintaining good academic standing (as defined by the recipient's academic program) and full-time enrollment in a PhD program in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • In the event that a recipient fails to meet the renewal criteria, or completes their degree early, residual funds may be used to offer additional entrance scholarships at the above criteria.
