CPI Talk- Digital Disinformation and Democracy

In our next CPI Talk, our hosts Bessma Momani and Shelly Ghai Bajaj discuss how disinformation flows and spreads on direct messaging and private chat applications, why they are important digital spaces to study, and the broader political and social implications of disinformation.

Kyndryl (NYSE: KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today announced it is collaborating with the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute (CPI) at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, to support critical research related to protecting and preserving data privacy and security.

Dr. Alfred Menezes, has launched a short "Kyber and Dilithium" course. The CPI member recently published an online course that introduces the quantum-safe key encapsulation and signature schemes based on lattices that were standardized by the US government's National Institute for Standards and Technology last month.
 

On Thursday, September 26th, the C.D. Howe Institute and the University of Waterloo Cybersecurity & Privacy Institute will host a policy conference on “Securing Canada’s Digital Future: The Role of Cybersecurity”. 

This conference brings together leading policy, industry, and academic experts to address the intersection of cybersecurity and public policy, offering insights into the strategies essential to secure Canada’s digital future.

2024 Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute Annual Conference

Welcome to the 2024 Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute Annual Conference.

The University of Waterloo Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute is proud to host its Annual Conference on Thursday October 10, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, at Federation Hall on the University of Waterloo Campus.

This event centres on our theme, TACKLING CANADA’S CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGES, which will highlight current and future efforts within the cybersecurity and privacy sphere, with keynote speakers, panel discussions, and industry talks. This conference is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, entrepreneurs, start-ups, government, sponsors, and businesses.

Congratulations to Vasisht Duddu and Rasoul Akhavan Mahdavi, the 2024 winners of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Excellence Graduate Scholarships. Generously sponsored by MasterCard and BTQ, each of these graduate students will receive $10,000 for attaining this prestigious award. We had many high calibre applicants for this year's scholarships, the competition was the highest level it has been since the inception of this award in 2019.

The Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute hosted a unique interdisciplinary workshop on campus that brought together University of Waterloo faculty, staff, and students, as well as industry representatives and visiting academics. Attendees spent an enjoyable and thought-provoking day Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Enterprise Theatre in East Campus 5 exploring algorithmic game theory by hearing perspectives from both economists and computer scientists in a special speaker/presentation format organized and led by CPI’s Acting Executive Director, Anindya Sen.
