Welcome to the 2022 Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute Annual Conference.

Registration for this conference is closed.

The University of Waterloo Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute is proud to host its Annual Conference on October 6 (afternoon) & 7 (morning). This event will highlight current and future efforts in two main themes within the cybersecurity and privacy sphere, with keynote speakers, panel discussions, and industry talks. This conference is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, entrepreneurs, start ups, government, sponsors, and businesses.

Our two main themes for this years Annual Conference include:

  • Addressing the Cybersecurity & Privacy Talent Gap - There is a global undersupply of security/privacy professionals who can provide technology leadership, test and secure network systems, and offer training in proprietary software protection. Managing the security of data, infrastructure, and AI/ML algorithms is crucial to maintaining a competitive and functioning society. What are the ways government, academia, and private industry can work to address the talent gap in Canada,  and strive towards being cybersecurity/privacy leaders worldwide?
  • Data Collection & Effective Public Policy - Rapid digitalization has been accompanied by relentless data collection driven by the enormous appetite for extracting useful insights and value from data. Recent developments have also shown how such data can be misused in a variety of ways ranging from infringing on the privacy of individuals to influencing democratic processes. Understanding the potential for such misuse and developing effective mitigation strategies is an urgent societal need. Actively engaging policymakers at all echelons of influence in supporting their decision-making efforts in relation to matters of cybersecurity and privacy is paramount.
