Class Representatives

At the start of each Academic Term, each cohort will elect nominally two class representatives for each program within that cohort.  These representatives will be the official liaison between the cohort and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a Class Representative are:

  1. Course Surveys:
    • Responsible for verifying that course surveys have been done in the appropriate time slot. Although the Engineering Society (and not the department) conducts the course survey, we need you to help us to verify that they have been done.
    • 4A and 4B class reps should contact the Undergraduate Advisor/Coordinator regarding the 4B class survey.
  2. Class Prof/Rep Meetings:
    • Attend the scheduled Class Prof/Rep Meetings.
    • "Close the Loop" - provide feedback and information from the meetings to your classmates.
  3. Ensure that for rescheduled:
    • individual lectures (due to, for example, unavailability of the instructor for a lecture or two) that there is no objection from any student in the course, and
    • courses (all lectures moved to a new time) requires the signature of all students currently enrolled in the course.
  4. Act as your class' main liaison between the students and the Professors and Department. Class Reps must be professional and act as a representative of their class. All Professor absences and problems should be reported at a class-prof/rep meeting so that the Department can be responsive.
  5. Provide feedback at the Class Prof/Rep meetings.
  6. Participate in and encourage your classmates to participate in TA evaluations and alert the Co-Chair of the UGSC of any TA issues.
  7. Participate in and encourage your classmates to participate in nominating your best Professors for Teaching awards.
  8. Must inform the Class that all student complaints must go through the Class Rep. Students must follow this procedure and should not contact the Chair or one of the Associate Chairs directly. (Note that 'student complaints' does not include the more serious issues for which a University policy exists, such as for discrimination, harassment, etc)
  9. Must validate all student complaints.
  10. Must inform course instructor or lab instructor and attempt to seek to resolve any student complaints.
  11. Must inform the Teaching Quality Coordinator if any student complaints could not be solved through meeting with the Instructor.
  12. Must report solution back to student/class.
  13. Must wait for solution from the Teaching Quality Coordinator. If no solution is obtained through the Teaching Quality Coordinator, it will be reported as such at the next ClassProf/ClassRep Meeting and will be put into the minutes. Afterwards the Class Rep will wait to hear about the resolution from the Chair of ClassProf/ClassRep meeting who will seek resolve from the Chair.
