Autonomous Navigation in Unknown and Dynamic Large–Scale Environments

Wednesday, April 27, 2016 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Professor Ivan Petrović, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing

University of Zagreb Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics (LAMOR)

Abstract:
The talk will give a brief overview of recent research activities and achievements of my Lab in the area of autonomous navigation of ground and aerial robots. The emphasis will be given on our recently developed
algorithms for real-time motion planning and control, localization and mapping, and moving objects detection and tracking. For all algorithms I will present experimental results that have been obtained in real-world
environments. I will conclude the talk with brief presentation of on-going research projects in the Lab and outline of some open issues and potential directions for future research.

Biography:
Ivan Petrović is a full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. He is the head of the Laboratory for Autonomous Systems and Mobile Robotics – LAMOR (http://lamor.fer.hr)
and also the head of the Centre of Research Excellence for Advanced Cooperative Systems – ACROSS (http://across.fer.unizg.hr). During more than thirty years of research work he addressed various aspects of
automatic control theory and its application. In the last fifteen years his research interest focus is set to advanced control and estimation techniques with their application in control and navigation of autonomous
mobile robots and vehicles. He published his research achievements as author or co-author of more than 40 papers in scientific journals and more than 160 papers in proceedings of international conferences. Results of
his research effort have been implemented in several industrial products. He has actively participated as a collaborator or principal investigator in more than thirty research and development projects at national and EU
level. He is an active member of national and international professional societies.
