Chamath Palihapitiya (BASc ’99, Elect) and Brigette Lau (BASc ’99, Comp), founders of Social Capital, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, are returning to campus to talk to Engineering students about two amazing opportunities that could change students' lives.
Fireside Chat: Chamath and Pearl Sullivan, Dean of Engineering, will have a lively 40 minute Fireside Chat where they will discuss some of the amazing opportunities for Engineering undergraduate and graduate students.
1. The newly expanded Palihapitiya Lau Venture Creation fund that gives two 4th year engineering student teams $50,000 for a four-month commitment to transform their Capstone Design project into a promising startup.
2. The Social Capital Fellows program that gives selected students a premium co-op work term at one of Social Capital's portfolio companies.
Chamath will also provide "insider" insight on why working for one of Social Capital portfolio companies (either co-op or career choice) is a brilliant move.
