ABSTRACT
The development of 5G communication systems will drive the design and industrialization of millimeter-wave low cost and reconfigurable components. New technologies and innovative approaches are needed for the integration of these future communication systems. Control circuits like switches, or integrated passive components like filters will be needed with operating frequencies beyond 100 GHz. The presentation will cover some of the ongoing research at the XLIM research institute in Limoges, France, like micro additive fabrication of 140 GHz devices filters and phase change material based tunable filters. Innovative MEMS-based circuits for 5G systems will be presented along with latest results on integrated thin-film packaged MEMS components.
BIOGRAPHY
Pierre Blondy received the Ph.D. and Habilitation degrees from the University of Limoges, Limoges, France, in 1998 and 2003, respectively. From 1998 to 2006, he was with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), as a Research Engineer with XLIM Laboratory, where he began research on RF-MEMS technology and its applications to microwave circuits. He is currently a Professor at the University of Limoges, where he holds an Institut Universitaire de France Research Chair. Dr. Blondy was an Associate Editor for the IEEE MICROWAVE AND WIRELESS COMPONENTS LETTERS in 2006. He received the “Outstanding Young Engineer Award” from the IEEE-MTT society in 2011. He has authored or coauthored more than 150 papers in refereed journals and conferences and holds several patents.
