Electromagnetic inversion can be defined as the process by which some properties of an investigation domain are inferred from outer electromagnetic observations. The investigation domain may include scatterers (e.g., biological tissues) or electromagnetic sources (e.g., antennas). This process includes both data collection techniques and data interpretation algorithms (inversion algorithms), and has various applications within a wide range of the frequency spectrum. In this presentation, electromagnetic inversion within the microwave frequency range for three different application areas will be considered. These application areas are microwave tomography, arctic remote sensing, and near-field antenna measurements. Within this framework, different topics such as the achievable resolution, quantitative accuracy, and the use of a priori information are discussed.
Puyan Mojabi received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran, Iran, in 2002, MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology, Iran, in 2004 and PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba, Canada, in 2010. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Manitoba. Puyan is a recipient of two Young Scientist Awards from the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in 2014 (GASS) and 2015 (AT-RASC). He is also a recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Manitoba. Puyan serves as the national representative of Commission E of the Canadian National Committee of URSI. He is also the Early Career Representative of URSI’s Commission K.
