Abstract: In this talk, we first demonstrate the importance of physical layer designs (modulation and coding in particular) considering both spectral efficiency and power amplifier efficiency. We review several practical as well as not so practical peak power reduction techniques, especially those developed for OFDM systems, focusing on their pros and cons. Some related results from information and coding theory will be also discussed together with related open problems.
Bio: Hideki Ochiai received the Ph.D degree in information and communication engineering from The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, in 2001. He is currently a Professor at Yokohama National University, Yokohama, Japan. From 2003 to 2004, he was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard University.
He served as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications from 2007 to 2011, and for the IEEE Wireless Communications Letters from 2011 to 2016. He also served as a TPC co-chair for the IEEE VTC 2018 Spring held in Porto, Portugal. His research interests include communication theory, especially modulation and coding for wireless communications.
