Each year, our graduate students earn prestigious awards in recognition of their academic excellence, research impact, and leadership.


Governor General's Gold Medal

For nearly 150 years, the Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. They are awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from a high school, as well as from approved college or university programs. Today, the Governor General’s Gold Medal is awarded to the graduate student who achieves the highest academic standing at their university.

NSERC Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral

The NSERC Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (NSERC CGRS D) is one of Canada's most prestigious doctoral scholarships. Awarded through a national competition, the scholarship recognizes exceptional doctoral students whose academic excellence, research achievements, and leadership potential position them among Canada's most promising emerging researchers. Valued at $40,000 per year for up to three years, the scholarship supports students pursuing advanced research that contributes to scientific discovery, technological innovation, and societal impact.

Beginning with the 2025 competition, the CGRS D replaced and consolidated several previous Tri-Agency doctoral scholarship programs, including the former NSERC PGS D and the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship framework under the new Canada Research Training Awards Suite.

Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS), named after Major-General Georges P. Vanier, Canada's first francophone Governor General, provide $50,000 per year for up to three years to help Canadian institutions attract highly qualified doctoral students. Recipients are selected based on Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership.

Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence

The Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence supports recruiting exceptional students to AI-related master’s programs in Ontario. A $17,500 entrance scholarship awarded to top students pursuing AI master’s in Ontario university, these merit-based entrance awards recognize exceptional candidates pursuing a master’s program recognized by the Vector Institute or candidates who are following an individualized study path that is demonstrably AI-focused.
