Electrical and computer engineering MASc student awarded Gold Honour in the Final Round of the International Youth Math Challenge

Oleksandr Hrabar, a Master of Applied Science (MASc) student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Waterloo, has earned top honours in the 2024 International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC), securing a place among the top 1% of all 5280 participants. Hrabar’s outstanding performance has been recognized with the prestigious Gold Honour, along with the 2nd Prize Senior and the 1st National Award for Canada.

The Final Round of the IYMC took place in February 2025, and is the pinnacle of the competition, where participants are tested in a timed online exam that evaluates their mathematical prowess. The IYMC is a globally renowned mathematics competition that encourages students to challenge themselves, develop their problem-solving skills, and connect with a worldwide network of young mathematicians.
