MASc Seminar Milestone Completion

MASc candidates must deliver a seminar on their thesis topic to fulfill their degree requirements. The seminar aims to help students develop their skills to effectively communicate research findings in a clear and organized way. The seminar is not intended to serve as an oral examination of the thesis. Upon completion, the MASc Seminar Milestone is documented in the student’s academic record.

The following instructions outline the steps to complete the seminar milestone degree requirement:

  1. Coordinate with your supervisor and one additional faculty member (who is willing to attend) to confirm a date for completing your seminar milestone.
  2. Once a date is determined, email the following information to the MASc Program Coordinator/Advisor:
    • Title.
    • Abstract.
    • Proposed date and time for your seminar and whether it will be held online or in-person.
      • If the seminar is held in person, please indicate if you require any audio-visual equipment, such as a data projector or laptop.
    • Names of the attending faculty members.
  3. On the day of your seminar, your supervisor and the attending faculty member will receive an email with a web link to approve the seminar milestone.

Once the milestone is completed and approved, the Seminar Milestone form will be sent to Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, where a staff member will then record the completion of the Seminar Milestone on your academic record.
