Broadband Communication Research (BBCR) Group secures top honours at IEEE VTC2025-Fall

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is proud to announce that the Broadband Communication Research (BBCR) Group led by Drs. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen and Weihua Zhuang, earned top international recognition at the IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) 2025-Fall.

Held in Chengdu, China, from October 19 to 22, 2025, the IEEE 102nd Vehicular Technology Conference brought together global leaders from academia, industry, and government to advance conversations in wireless, mobile, and vehicular communications. At the conference, two BBCR papers were selected for top accolades.

The paper titled “AI-Assisted Network-Slicing Based Next-Generation Wireless Networks”, authored by Xuemin Shen, Jie Gao, Wen Wu, Kangjia Lyu, Mushu Li, Dr. Weihua Zhuang, Xu Li, and Jaya Rao, and originally published in the IEEE Open Journal on Vehicular Technology in January 2020, received the prestigious 2025 IEEE Vehicular Technology Society OJVT Best Paper Award.

In addition, the BBCR Group was recognized with the conference’s Best Student Paper Award for the work titled “Model-Assisted Learning for Environment-Aware Content Delivery in Mobile AR”, authored by Shisheng Hu, Xue Qin, Conghao Zhou, Yingying Pei, Xiaodan Shao, Xinyu Huang, and Xuemin Shen.

The BBCR Lab has long been recognized as a hub of excellence in telecommunications research. Through sustained collaboration among faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, visiting scholars, and research associates, the group has made significant contributions to advancing telecommunication technologies and has consistently earned national and international acclaim.

These latest accolades reflect the outstanding innovation, dedication, and impact of BBCR researchers and reinforce the Department’s reputation as a world leader in next-generation communication technologies.
