"A Dynamic Markov Game for Decision Making in Self-Protecting Software" by Mahsa Emami-Taba (PhD Student), Mehdi Amoui (Postdoctoral Fellow), and Professor Ladan Tahvildari from the STAR Lab of the ECE Department was honoured with the "Technology Showcase Best Exhibit award" at CASCON 2014, the 24th International Conference hosted by the Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) Research, IBM Canada Software Laboratory. Complicated and dynamic application-layer attacks are a major threat to software systems these days. In this study, the interactions between the attacker and self-protecting software are modelled as a two-player zero-sum Markov game. Conducted experiments dynamic application-layer DoS attack show promising results in mitigating dynamic attacks.
