ECE Professor, George Shaker, has won the Best Workshop Paper Award at ACM MobileHCI 2017.

Shaker and his research team believe one solution towards having a prick-free glucose monitor for diabetes patients is through the use of wireless sensing. The team demonstrated a prototype system showing it is possible to use mm-wave technology to discriminate between various glucose-water concentrations with high accuracy. This new technology relies on wireless waves for both sensing and communication. The team used 3D printing, silicone rubber structures, and animal meat as human tissue-equivalent phantoms for further concept validation. Preliminary results are summarized in the paper “Non-Invasive Glucose Monitoring utilizing Electromagnetic Waves.”

Congratulations!
