A University of Waterloo team received the third Best Design Award in the 2016 IEEE AP-S/URSI design competition (IEEE Antennas and Propagation Symposium AP-S has been held annually since 1949). Fifty international teams competed with designs on electromagnetic energy harvesters. The work will be featured in a special issue of the IEEE Antenna and Propagation Magazine. The UWaterloo participating team members were: Luyao Chen (second year Master's student in Electrical and Computer Engineering), Ben Milligan (undergraduate student in Nanotechnology Engineering), and Shiran Qu (undergraduate student in Mechatronics Engineering). This was the first conference participation for any of the UWaterloo team student members. The team was supervised by Dr. George Shaker, Adjunct Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Centre of Intelligent Antenna and Radio Systems (CIARS).
