Non-faculty positions currently available in electrical and computer engineering
Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Associate in radio-frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) design
The Emerging Radio Systems Group (EmRG) is pursuing a research project to develop deep sub-micron, integrated circuit solutions for massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO), beam-forming transmitters used in millimeter-wave radiocommunication. This project is part of a larger initiative to realize fifth generation wireless technologies or 5G.
Position description
We are currently looking to hire a postdoctoral fellow (or an experienced research associate) for this project. A one-year contract with competitive funding is available, starting March, 1st 2021, and may be renewed based on performance.
The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated individual with a strong theoretical background in the design and analysis radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) for wireless communications. The candidate should also have demonstrated experience in the simulation, layout, tape-out, and testing and validation of integrated circuit prototypes. Key accountabilities of the position include:
- conducting literature reviews and feasibility studies of emerging RFIC topologies, architectures, and design techniques for wireless communication hardware.
- performing circuit and system-level design and co-simulation, layout, verification, electromagnetic simulation, and optimization as part of the tape-out process.
- conducting laboratory tests on fabricated prototypes using the probe station, network analysers, and vector signal generators and analysers.
- collaborating with group members and industry design engineers to meet tape-out deadlines; actively engaging in planning and design review meetings
Position requirements
Education:
- candidates with a PhD in electrical engineering, with a strong background in hardware design and radiocommunication circuitry will be considered for a postdoctoral position
- candidates with a MASc and relevant experience will be considered for a research associate position
Qualifications:
- knowledge of RFIC design principles and best practices
- proficiency with circuit and system simulation and design tools, e.g. Cadence, Advanced Design System, and MATLAB
- solid understanding of radiocommunication challenges at millimetre-wave frequencies, and their implications on hardware
- experience with probe station measurements, vector signal analysers/generators, and vector network analysers is an asset
- experience with project management is an asset; candidates will be required to lead meetings, manage tape-out deadlines, and coordinate with internal and external collaborators
How to apply:
Interested candidates should email a complete application package to joinemrg@gmail.com, consisting of the following:
- a cover letter stating your research interests and experience, and relating them to the job description described above,
- a curriculum vitae, with three academic or professional references, and
- an electronic copy of your most significant research publication (thesis, journal or conference publication).
Please ensure all items are attached to the email in .docx or .pdf format, and include the position title in the subject line. We will respond to eligible candidates within a reasonable time frame. The call for applications will remain until the position is filled.
