Constructing a Brushless DC Motor

The principles of electromagnetism are often taught in a very abstract way, and students can struggle to link the concepts with real life.

In this activity, students are tasked with winding their own electromagnets and building a working brushless DC motor. Before connecting their motor to a provided test bench, the students must first determine the activation sequence for the electromagnetic coils, and test this sequence using switches to activate each coil at the right moment.

A brushed version of this motor is currently under active development.
