You are eligible to claim the tuition discount for yourself or your child if you are:
- a uWaterloo employee/pensioner* on the first day of term and remain an employee/pensioner* during the first three weeks of that term.
- enrolled in the employee discounts plan or receiving a uWaterloo pension
- not employed as a TA, RA, sessional instructor, Co-op student or on contract for less than two years.
*pensioners who are 65 years of age on the first day of the term will automatically receive the Seniors Tuition Discount rather than the Employee Tuition Discount.
The tuition discount amount for your own studies is:
- equal to 100% (or other % based on FTE less than 100%, subject to the terms of Policy 4) of the TUITION FEE ONLY.
- for a maximum of two .5-credit undergraduate courses or a part-time graduate program per term; exceptions will only be considered for students in their final term of a degree program.
- at the domestic tuition rate.
- for the term indicated on the form at the time of submission. We cannot process requests for a tuition discount retroactive to a term prior to the term displayed on the form at the time of submission.
- Note: staff who are students for the first time may have more than one WatIAM ID. Please contact IST to have your ID accounts merged so that you can successfully submit the tuition benefit form.
The tuition discount amount for your child/children is:
- equal to 50% (or other % based on your FTE, subject to the terms of Policy 24) of fees for TUITION, CO-OP FEE AND WORK REPORT MARKING FEE ONLY.
- at the domestic rate.
- for the term indicated on the form at the time of submission. We cannot process requests for a tuition discount retroactive to a term prior to the term displayed on the form at the time of submission.
You cannot claim the tuition discount for a spouse.
To apply for the tuition discount amount for yourself or your child/children:
1. Complete the application form on behalf of the student (you or your child) and click the SUBMIT button on the form. If you and your child will both be students this term, you need to complete and submit a form for each student.
NOTE: Your/your child's tuition discount amount will be automatically added to your student account in Quest as either an Employee Tuition Discount or a Dependent Tuition Discount within one business day following your application.
2. Make a payment for the remaining amount owing on your/your child's student account.
NOTE: Once the entire balance owing is paid by the tuition discount discount and any payment required, your/your child's registered status will change to "Fees Arranged".
*If you are a uWaterloo pensioner/retiree, you will need to contact Student Financial Services to have the tuition discount applied to your Quest account.
