Gamification is using game design in systems that primarily support non-game tasks to make them more fun, engaging, and motivating.
Gamification 2013, hosted by the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus, was the premier event to share ideas, collaborate with thought leaders (academics and industry experts) and explore the future of gamification.
The conference showcased ongoing research in gamification and provided a venue for international and interdisciplinary attendees to discuss the research and the growing gamification industry. The conference program highlighted Canada’s existing and emerging leadership in this sector, and enabled the collaboration and planning that will ensure the industry’s continued success. The program streams featured a blend of academic research and experimental applications with industry and non-profit examples, procedures, best practices, goals and results.
In cooperation with the Special Interest Group on COMPUTER-HUMAN INTERACTION (SIGCHI) of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Gamification 2013 was hosted by the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
