Croatian President visits Waterloo

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

The University of Waterloo was honoured to welcome Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović to campus on November 21, 2016. As part of her working visit to Canada, President Grabar-Kitarović spent a day in Kitchener-Waterloo learning more about the University's role in enhancing technology research and entrepreneurship and met with students of Croatian language and culture.

President Grabar-Kitarović found time to visit with the Dean of Arts, faculty members, and students taking some of our department's Croatian Studies courses. She engaged the students in a lively discussion about their Croatian language and culture learning in our department, and encouraged them to explore study abroad and other opportunities to gain international experience.

The students, some with Croatian family background and some without, spoke very favourably about their experience in the Croatian courses and praised their instructor, Aleksandra Srsa Benko. They presented the value of this education from their different perspectives as Arts, Engineering or Science students. We were delighted to be part of the visit and will cherish this experience.
