An Encounter: Lina Loos

Wednesday, November 11, 2020

The Austrian Cultural Forum offers a free virtual reading in German about the famous Austrian actress and writer of the fin de siècle Vienna, Lina Loos (1882–1950).

Lina Loos

The reading is performed by Austrian public speaker Bettina Rossbacher. By reading from Loos‘ autobiographic texts, Rossbacher creates a unique and insightful literary encounter with Lina Loos and her world.
First wife of Adolf Loos, confidante of Egon Friedell, closest friend of Franz Theodor Csokor, Peter Altenberg‘s hymnically adored one, muse and most beautiful woman in Vienna: Behind all these labels stands an actress, columnist and unconventional woman who always insisted on following her own path - with wit, keen observation and a strong personal opinion.
In addition to her work at renowned theatres (Vienna, Berlin, New York...), Lina Loos wrote poems and plays and published feuilletons in Viennese newspapers and magazines from 1904 on for over thirty years. A selection of these was first published in book form in 1947 ("Das Buch ohne Titel").

Bettina Rossbacher is a professional public speaker, reciter and designer of literary programmes from Austria. Since 2008 she has been presenting a variety of literary readings at renowned Austrian venues (e.g. Austrian Society for Literature Vienna, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Jewish Museum Vienna, Belvedere, Albertina). Rossbacher also works as a narrator of audiobooks and podcasts as well as an OFF voice & event host and as a coach for speaking and presentation techniques.
