Teach English in Germany (2024-2025 PAD program)

In co-operation with the German Pedagogical Exchange Office (PAD), German Studies Canada is accepting applications for positions as English-language assistants in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The assistants spend 9 months at a school (starting in August/September 2024; ending May 31, 2025) in Germany, working 12 hours per week as resource persons under the direction of teachers of English. They are expected to help with conversation and oral practice of English and should also be able to provide information about everyday life and culture in Canada.


  • Students majoring in German or any other subject who will have completed a first degree (BA) upon assuming the position.
  • Must be native speakers of English and long-time residents of Canada.
  • Must have completed 2 years of university German or completed A2 level.
  • Should not be older than 35 years of age.

The teaching assistants receive a minimum cost-of-living stipend of 1000, - Euro per month, which includes insurance and is tax-exempt in Germany. 
PAD assistants who rent lodgings can apply for a housing subsidy with the responsible local housing subsidy office, which, if granted will be in addition to the stipend. Measles vaccination is required for this position.

Please take into account that completing the application requires some time. You will need to submit documents like a recommendation letter from a professor, a transcript, a certificate of your German language proficiency, a statement in German why you are applying to the program, etc.

Please also note: Applicants for the teaching assistantship are expected to accept a position if it is offered to them.
