Biography
Born and raised in the Netherlands, I have been fascinated with languages since I was very young. After studying translation and interpretation in Antwerp, Belgium, I came to the Université de Montréal for a M.A. in Linguistics, with a focus on terminology. I settled with my family in Ontario in 2006 and started teaching Dutch at the University of Waterloo in 2011.
Although Romance languages, specifically French and Portuguese, were my first love, I have a renewed appreciation for my Germanic roots since joining the department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. After many years of working with language professionally as a translator, interpreter and language instructor, I am currently pursuing a MA in German with a research focus on conversation analysis.
