Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at University of Waterloo?

I studied English and American Studies as well as German Language and Literature at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg in Germany. I continued my studies of German with the Master of Arts program at the University of Waterloo.

What are your interests in German Studies?

I'm interested in literary studies (especially German medieval literature).

Why did you choose University of Waterloo?

I chose the University of Waterloo because of the vibrant German department and the German heritage of Waterloo and its region.

Why did you choose this program?

This program gives me the opportunity to focus on all the fields I am interested in. A lot of people ask why I am doing German studies in Canada. Looking at German literature, linguistics and culture from a different perspective is enriching.

Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?

I'm working on it. I've been trying to keep my mind open to different options and get a sense of what I like. However, I can see a high probability that it's going to be in the area of German medieval literature.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A vet (until I realized I would have to perform surgery on animals).

What is something people wouldn't guess about you?

... small, but oh my. ;-)
