Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo?

At the University of Bonn, I studied English, German and educational sciences to become a teacher.

What are your interests in German Studies?

I particularly enjoy literature studies and the interrelations of it with culture, society and other fields.

Why did you choose the University of Waterloo?

As part of the IcGS program I chose UWaterloo due the intercultural exchange between a Canadian and a German university (Mannheim) and to experience Canadian (university) life.

Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?

Currently, I am not sure what to write my thesis on, but I have various interests such as international and intercultural differences in various fields of literature, societal criticism in literature or (dystopian)visions of the future.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Until a few years ago, I wanted to be a school teacher – a dream still in place, but I’d now rather work at a university than at a school.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have traveled to the UK over 10 times, so it is about time to explore other places on another continent!
