Helena Böhmer

Joint MA in Intercultural German Studies
Helena

Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo?

For my Undergrad Studies I studied German literature and language as well as American, British and Canadian Studies at the Philipps-University of Marburg in Germany and the University College Cork in Ireland.

What are your interests in German Studies?

I’m most interested in linguistics.

Why did you choose the University of Waterloo?

I chose the joint Master’s degree at the Universities of Mannheim and Waterloo because I’m really passionate about intercultural exchange and liked the idea of combining that with a degree in German Studies.

Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?

I’m not sure yet, but I’d like to write about something related to linguistics or interculturality.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I don’t quite remember, but I’m pretty sure I wanted to work with animals.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love traveling and exploring new cultures and places.
