Leonie Längle

Joint MA in Intercultural German Studies

Where and what did you study before you came to Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Waterloo?

I studied Current English Linguistics and Literary Studies (CELLS) as a bachelor program at the University of Mannheim.

What are your interests in German Studies?

I’m particularly interested in literature, whether it’s classics or modern literature.

Why did you choose the University of Waterloo?

The University of Waterloo is part of the joint degree program “Intercultural German Studies” so I could not actually choose the university. However, I chose this program and thus, indirectly the University of Waterloo, because I was interested to see and learn how German studies are taught from a Canadian perspective.

Do you already know what you want to write your thesis on?

I feel like I barely started my master’s program and I have no idea about my thesis yet. However, I’m sure I will write my thesis in the field of literature as I’m most interested in literature.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be an author, hence my interest in all kinds of literature. Nowadays, I’m more interested in becoming an editor for books.

What is a fun fact about you?

Even though I’m German I can speak in a pretty convincing American accent, specifically Californian accent, and thus I’m quite good at deceiving people and pretend I’m American.
